Green Is The New Black
So, what does sustainable mean? To break it down, it is essentially the way we value and care about the environment. Fast fashion brands leave a negative impact on the environment. There are several factors associated with fast fashion, such as carbon footprint, water consumption, landfill and so forth. We can see why it is better to try and buy less while reducing our own carbon footprint where possible.
Quality over quantity is an important concept in terms of sustainable clothing. When the clothing quality is made from environmentally friendly materials. The clothes will last a lot longer as opposed to clothing from fast fashion brands who use cheap materials that will tear and lose its quality. Furthermore, buying from sustainable brands will reduce your waste when you throw out worn out clothes purchased, and as a result this will help the environment.
When you buy items made from environmentally friendly materials you are more likely to appreciate it more since you are helping the environment become greener.
Being sustainable in the fashion industry is of great importance and should be discussed more in our society. Sustainable brands use different methods to dye and bleach its clothing such as supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). Carbon dioxide is typically used for bleaching but using supercritical carbon dioxide saves the energy being processed, thus helping the environment. Moreover, this method is safe for workers unlike other harmful chemicals when dying clothing products.
The materials that are used to make ethical clothing are displayed above and can be recycled, reused and worn again. Furthermore, these materials use less water, made naturally and reduce pollution.
Sustainable fashion can be known as slow fashion since it does not rely on trends to constantly produce new pieces of clothing and is thus more ethical. Although it is called slow fashion, you can still style outfits and be trendy with a greener conscious!
